We have since bought the majority of ours from gumtree and the like. The downside is that it takes time.
If you're in that position, ask around family and friends - if someone is getting new furniture, ask if they would pass their old stuff on to you. A lot of areas have charity shops that do household clearances and sell on the furniture - https://www.bhf.org.uk/shop/our-local-shops.aspx?pid=g&gclid=CNeZu_Cz9rMCFW3MtAoduVMAjQ
Freegle/Freecycle is another good place to look.
Good luck in your new home!
buy really really cheap second hand stuff to start with,
nothing worse than buying a big nice expensive sofa for a new house, living with it for 3 months and then realising that you want to orientate the room differently becuase of X/Y/Z (things that you only realise when you live there) but the new sofa wont work in the new position.
They all look the business.
Try to find something similar by you.
