Bailiff Charges!

I am paying bailiffs for council tax. When the bailiff came to my house to arrange a payment plan, he asked for £150 in cash up front and an agreement was made allowing me to pay £40 per month. My first payment was due on Nov 11th. I decided 2 pay it on 9th just to get it out of the way. I was unable 2 get through on the automated phone system they have as it was constantly engaged so I decided 2 go on their website and pay it online. Ive now had the bailiffs round again as they say my payment was late (i didnt read the small print on the agreement that said I had to allow 7 days for the payment to reach them) and they have made my original arrangement void. On the first notice I received from them it lists costs such as:Todays visit fee £24.50 Second visit fee £18.00 Levy Fee £50.00 (I dont know what this is for)? Anyway the letter that was awaiting me when I came home at the weekend is a default notice (for me apparently being late with my payment) and a visit fee for £146.00. Can they really charge that much? I managed to speak to the person who put the default notice through my door and she told me I had to pay £350 now in order to reinstate my arrangement with them or they were coming to my property today to recover goods. It is 21.00pm and no one has arrived so far. Can anyone shed any light on what I should do? Thank you

I'd print off a receipt every time you pay online.
Make note of every transaction reference number.
Write down a note of every time, how long you were on hold for name of every call agent when you call the Council Tax office.
So if it does & I hope it doesn't, goes further you've got evidence of trying to contact people who are wanting this money.
Good Luck

Thank you.
I have printed off the confirmation email for receipt of payment and have now written down all the times/dates I have tried to phone.
I also really want to know if I have to pay the £146 they are charging me just to hand deliver a 'default notice' through my letter box. Surey that cant be right? :mad:0 -

Yes he left a notice of seizure and inventory of goods. To be honest the £50 levy fee is the least of my worries at the moment. My problem is the fact they have cancelled my agreement as I was late paying and they have charged me £146.00 for a re-visit and are probably going to charge me another £146 to visit again as I wasn't at home last time when they called.
I am more than happy to pay them but they aren't satisfied that I genuinely didn't know I had to allow 7 days for the payment to reach them and they want to charge me £350 upfront before they will set up my original arrangement again.
I wont be answering my door to them but I cant avoid them forever0 -
Hi
Now the bailiff has listed the good in your house, he can come back any time he wants - those goods belong to him effectively.
The visit fee sounds wrong but you need to be careful given the above.
Exactly what is listed on ths levy?
How many people in the household? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

He listed my dining room table & chairs, wardrobe, tumble dryer, 1 x sofa, tv and microwave.

I only let him in as I wanted to set up an arrangement to pay my debt. He didn't state during his visit that I had to allow 7 days for the payment to reach them although it does say it in small print on the notice of seizure which I only noticed once they had cancelled my agreement :mad:0
