As from today we have only 9 more payments to be mortgage free:j So excited, which is sad but we will have then paid off the mortgage 12yrs early!! We had planned to pay it by May 2015 but will manage it now by September 2013! It will be interest free in the next couple of months as it is offset against some savings. No idea what I will do once it has gone as I have got into the habit of buying value food and making do with what we have. The idea of having and spending the extra money we put in each month is going to be difficult at first!!

    Top Tips
    Bulk buy from costco
    Packed lunches
    Value/basics products are mostly fine
We have always put any extra money into the mortgage even when I did not work, now all my salary is going straight to the mortgage.
Work overtime! In 9 months we won't have too!!
Large chest freezer full of reduced food and a husband who asked for reductions to be reduced!
Not buying expensive stuff for the kids for xmas and birthdays! They have all mod cons which they have had to save for and contibute towards. They look after it much better. 2nd hand xbox, wii games they are very happy to wait and buy cheaper!
    No big holidays.
And me making sure we pay all credit cards off each month and getting cash back from them!.
    Offset Mortgage!!
May be boring but no debts, and a nice house which will be all ours come september 2013!!
  • Fantastic tips!!
Am doing most of them though could probably be more frugal at times with wasteful spends on food/takeaways - tend to go through phases of being very good and phases of being more spendy!!

Definitely looking into offset mortgages too for when we eventually buy a house!

Must feel great to think only 9 months left!

We don't eat out much as a family, both kids Autistic so prefer familiar things like mcDonalds, KFC. Would rather cook a nice meal at home with my reduced items!
I would say the closer we have got to the end the less i want to spend!! We are having some interesting (boring) meals using up freezer contents! Although as I am bulk cooking putting stuff back in the freezer!!
I can't quite believe we are nearly there!!
  • Well done, you're almost there!

Well done and brilliant tips :) ! We have an Offset Mortgage too and hope to repay 4 years early (but secretly hope that we can reduce it even further).
