Insurance Issue...!!

hi guys
I really really need some quick help here

I took out an insurance policy in July, gave them all the correct direct debit details, paid my deposit and went on my way!

I noticed in September that payment hadn't left my account, (I work abroad a lot so checking my bank statements isn't something I do often) so I called the company.

I informed them of the issue, they read out the bank account number and the last digit was wrong, I know I gave the right one as my agreement stated it, so clearly it was their fault and they admitted it.

They said they changed the account number, all sorted and I asked "but what do I do about the past two months" to which the lady said "if the other person claims it back, we will pay them, but this is our mistake you wont have to pay".

Again, I've been out the country for 6 weeks and haven't checked my bank.

I just received an email from them to say it's still incorrect, and I must change it!! So, I emailed to explain what I did previously and they said sorry, it's their mistake they will look into it. However, they now want me to pay the last 4 months by 4th Dec otherwise my policy gets cancelled, now I don't have that kind of money just sat around, and I don't know what to do!!

I called them and explained the error to which they did nothing about 2 months ago. Do I have a leg to stand on here?

I'm now home for Christmas, cant leave my car uninsured but cant pay that kind of money upfront, what do I do??

Please can someone help me

You do owe them some premium, so engage with them over this issue urgently!

If you end up with them cancelling the policy next week your problem will be much worse.

A cancellation on your record means you will not be able to get off thepeg cover and any future cover will be expensive. A cancellation has to be disclosed for ever more.

You had the insurance so you need to pay for it. If you dont they can cancel the policy which you may need to declare when getting quotes for the next 100 years or so.

Its their mistake they admitted to that and dont appear to be hounding you with threats etc. They just asked we made a mistake and can you pay us now please.

Even though its their fault they wont write off 4 months worth of premium.

You may get a goodwill gesture if your polite and ask.
