Rescue my car
Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice please on Rescue my Car. I took a break down policy out with them at the start of the year and everything was fine. Last weekend I had issues with my car and it didn't feel safe to drive so I called out Rescue my Car. They came out and I explained that my tyres were pulling and I felt I didn't have control of the car, after a 5/10 minute check they told me nothing was wrong with my car and I must of ran through some oil. My policy states they must take me to the local garage or home, as it was 8.30 at night I opted to go home, well they followed me for 5 minutes then asked me to pull over and sign a form and then they left me. I sarted having more issues with my car on the rest of the journey home and they did phone to see if I got home ok, I explained I wasn;t home and my car was still pulling and there was now a noise from the back of the car. The man that came out said he would have to phone his boss to see if he could come out and they phoned me back and told me no, there was nothing wrong with my car. I wasn't happy with the service so my local mechanic picked my car up on Tuesday for me and I only got it back yesterday and he was appalled that I was allowed to drive home after I called them out. IT ended up being that my rear brake drum was gone and my back wheel was loose and could fall off whenever. My mechanic stressed how dangerous this was and said I was lucky not to kill myself as I had to drive home on the motorway after they had left.
To top it off I had to pay a £40 excess charge for them to come out, I would have no problems paying the fee if they had looked over my car properly and did not tell me it was ok to drive when the car was dangerous.
I have tried to phone to complain but I can't seem to get through to anyone. Has anyone got some advice on what else I can do about my policy and complaint?
Thanks for reading!

As a first attempt I would have the mechanic write a short report.
Then write a letter to Rescue My Car detailing the issue and the excess they have charged.
I'm not really sure what you want out of the whole matter.
Do you want the £40 back only?
Do you want the policy cancelled as they have broken the contract?
I'm unsure how you stand on the latter, it would seem you have a good case but I'm no lawyer.
I would advise against trying to phone anyway.... make sure you do everything in writing.0
