Selfish brother

Hi
Hate talking like this but here goes.
My brother is 64 & a very heavy smoker & drinker has had health probs for yrs & has just come out of hospital still qiute weak. On all kinds of meds & is always about to quit the fags.
He is on DLA & a small pension from his former employer & has no life insurance to cover expenses if anything happened. He has 2 grown up kids who could never afford to pay for a funeral (his wife also has no insurance). His attitude is throw him on the tip when he goes, he has no sense of responsibility.
I have been talking with his kids & think the only solution is one of those guranteed over 50 plans. However, most don't cover you until 2 yrs have elapsed i have only found Asda & LV that kick in after 1 yr.
We are looking at £4K of cover & LV quote between £22- £25 per month with an additional 10% cover if you agree to a future funeral being with a firm called Dignity (but aren't firms like that more expensive anyway). Any premiums will be met between me & his daughters.
What do you all think? Are their any other firms/plans out their & if we do go with LV should we agree with the Dignity option?
Also what happens if someone dies & their is no money for a funeral. Do undertakers have to take instalments.
Again i hate talking like this but this has to be sorted soon.
Thanks

I think the govt would pay for a basic funeral but im not too sure.
It might be worth speaking with an independent mortgage or financial advisor. They will be able to research the market and find something for you. You can then compare costs.
They MAY not charge a fee and could just be happy with the commission they receive. So atleast then, you can compare it to what you have found yourself and see which is the best to go with.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. He is very clear that he only wants the cheapest and most basic of funerals. From the way you talk about him, it does not sound as if a funeral would be important for the rest of the family. So why plan to put money into the insurance and funeral industry? Instead, check out what the state would provide and what is the legal equivalent of chucking a body on the tip.0

To be honest, if I was your brother I would be bloody outraged if I thought by sibling was talking to my children and trying to sort out the payment for my funeral. I would be telling you to mind your own bloody business. Let his wife and children deal with it. Let them sort it out either before or after.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Just like to add he is fully aware we have been talking & as normal is happy for other people to pay.
Thanks0 -
The state will provide a basic funeral if he has no assets.0
