I had the same thing recently, so I asked them where they left the card (as there is a central site delivery office which receives all post and parcels) and they were at a bit of a loss as to how to answer that one.

I noticed the OU couriers have to write down the colour of your front door and letterbox. The man said it was so if anyone complains they were carded when they were in, they can prove they did go to the correct address and attempt a delivery.

I thought it was a good idea, and it would be nice if more couriers could do that.
Here I go again on my own....

Happened to me 2 years ago, by Citilink I think, I waited in all day, woke up at 7am, checked online regularly, and was shocked at 12.30 to see that it said courier had attempted delivery! I phoned up and the nice on duty staff phoned up and apologised and said driver had got lost and had drove around estate and didnt see entrance to my street. 30 minutes later I had my item!

The carded thing is a rouse used by nearly all couriers, basically it is used to fool their systems - if they fail to deliver then that is a black mark against the depot/driver, if they put it down as an attempted/carded delivery then it is the same as a full delivery as far as their systems are concerned, which means better figures for the depot, drivers and business as a whole. It also means that they do not have to pay out any failed delivery compensation to the customer. Has been going on for years in all courier companies.

I think all courier services can be like this at times. You do not mention what size the package was. I always try insist on Royal Mail special delivery as at least i know it will arrive on the day I WANT IT TO, even if it costs a little more. It saves on the hassle of having to waste two days.

Not so, my cousin sent a bunch of very expensive flowers for my grandparents 50th, this is 5 minutes from main post office/sorting office in town, and it took 10 days to arrive special delivery by which time the flowers had died and the anniversary passed.
