So
I've spent the past several nights designing a webpage from serif.com, as recommended on here. This evening I've given them my details for a payment, to publish my website.
Once I try to do this, having followed their instructions, I get the following message: An Error occured whilst trying to get the working directory from the FTP server.
What does this even mean and how can I get around it? This is just driving me nuts trying to figure this out.

Can you backtrack your story please. What have you done? Bought serif's webplus x5 package, got their free software or what?
You have since created a website out of html files or using one of their templates?
More info please.

I've made one out of their templates. Now bought a gold listing package which supposedly gets me registration of a web name and listing as a domain name. The design software was a free download which I'm trying to publish through.0

Try asking on the Serif forum - you might have more luck getting an answer:

How long ago did you buy the domain? (website name.com or uk etc)
It takes time to go live. They usually say about 24 hours.
Sometimes its faster sometimes it can take longer.
I use 50webs, You can host upto 20 sites on a personal plan. And 200 subdomains.
Not sure about website creation though.
I think its included?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You will need to wait for your web hosting package to go live. In the meantime serif should send you the FTP details etc needed for when you click on the PUBLISH menu item of the WebPlus software - It will ask you for the FTP details in order that it can upload your template (html and jquery) files to your web space (website).

Still can't get on, and they haven't send any specific details by mail. There is an option in the publishing bit for ftp server, but this auto fills with the webpage name and ftp. in front of it. I have published my page to disk - would it not be possible just to extract it from this?0

Have a look at the Serif forum - Post a help question there - Someone will help you - The Forum is full of experts...

I have PM'd you ;-)0

If you have the FTP details you could manually upload your files to your html or www folder using FileZilla for example.

Have you chosen a website name though? Is it active?
Goto the webpage and see what it says.
Do a whois and see if its live also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
