Ebay Dispute Ruling Illegal?

Dear Forum,
Having some trouble with ebay...I sold am amplifier and the buyer collected in person. After 6 weeks he started claiming a fault. He's claimed the fault appeared after a couple of weeks but rather than contact me he decided to get quotes to fix it and carried on using it. I guess he did not like these so contacted me to pay. I did not like the quotes either, did not accept liability but out of sympathy and offered £100 toward repair of £200. To cut the story short we could not agree, I asked him to open a case. Having studied MSE sale of Goods info I did not think he had any claim on me as private seller. I certainly did not think it reasonable to do anything other that contact me upon having issues and therefore dispute liability after this lengh of time and also dont accept that buyers actions of continuing to use after saying he found a fault are reasonable. Anyway ebay found in his favour and has forced a full refund. Now I have a broken amplifier. From what I can work out ebay's decision seems outside of the law, MSE and other guides would seem to support that at least they could not make a full refund an option. Does anyone agree and can I go after them for this?
Thanks for any advice, Simon

Unfortunately up to 45 days From sale eBay and PayPal consider the seller still liable for any issues and will find on behalf of a buyer opening an SNAD claim in most cases

There is very little that can be done unfortunately

I'd read the terms & conditions for sellers on eBay.

I imagine that you've agreed to accept liability for such events... but if not, I'd sue eBay!

First, it appears the buyer collected in person and paid with Paypal, this is never a good idea.
So did the buyer return item in person?
Ebay haven't in any way acted illegally, siding with a consumer who (on the surface at least) has paid £200 for a useless item is most definitely not illegal.
Quite simply if the buyer had paid cash and inspected item on collection then Ebay wouldn't have been able to do much about it.
