Leaking feather pillows

Hi Guys,

My pillows are leaking. On changing the pillow protector, I noticed what appeared to be enough down and feathers to cover a small bird coming out of my pillow. Bear in mind the pillows are at least five or six years old.

My question is does this inevitably happen to all down/feather pillows after a period of time and is there anything I can do to stop or prevent this from happening. Or is it simply a sign they have reached the end of their lives and I should stump up and buy new ones??

    Don't worry.

The loss of feathers and down will be compensated for by the accumulation of bed bug faeces and other detritus.
  • What a lovely thought! However your inference is very clear. Its time to get new pillows!

When I buy new pillows I also buy 2 basics white covers, stitch closed, then you have a further cover to stop leakage.
Do I need it or just want it.

Unless the pillows have feather and down proof ticking covers they will always find a way out, even with the ticking the odd one will escape. You could try putting them in quilted pillow protector covers and sewing the ends up.
Unless you've got bedbugs, which is very unlikely, you'll know it if you do, I wouldn't worry, there's always dust mites and the like but they won't hurt unless you're asthmatic and then you probably wouldn't be having feather anyway.pillows
