Currys PPI pre GISC

Does anyone know which insurance company provided ppi cover to Currys in 1999/2000? I sent a SAR to Genworth Financial who I'd read about in previous threads, but they said they had no info about me on their systems. What I'd like to get hold of is a copy of the insurance policy terms and conditions as I've only got the original agreement to refer to. Many thanks

What do you hope to find on the T&C's ?

Whether I would have been eligible to claim on the policy, if necessary, and to see if it was suitable for my needs. I do not recall receiving the T&C's when I took out the policy but I still have the agreement.
  • I am afraid you have nobody to complain to about this. The sale predated the GISC code so FOS will not investigate a complaint against DSG (Currys' owner), whilst the lender and underwriter have no liability for the sale.

I beg to differ, insurers subscribed to the ABI code pre GISC (see FOS website). I've already had a modest refund from PPI wrongly sold in 1999, and I personally know from a relation who works in compliance that banks are considering claims from as early as 1986.

In regards of a Currys store card account, I wrote to Santander, and also Santander for the SAR (data protection unit).
They provided me details going back to the 90's.

However, Santander complaints dept dealt with the complaint, and they did not uphold because they said with the length of time they could not track down the details, despite the fact I did end up receiving the info, and they also state they were not FSA registered, so could not complain to the FOS, but to the FLA.

The FLA didn't do much different but Genworth did, I provided them with the SAR details provided to me by Santander data unit and the details I already held.

None of which currently helps you.

Why haven't you complained to currys already? It doesn't matter who their insurer was until they've rejected your complaint.

insurers dont look as mis-sales though as they dont sell.

you refer to 1999 and your relation, but I bet thats a high street bank! which is different in this case.

Question for PPI expert Di3004; After you wrote to Genworth did they tell Santander to uphold your complaint and pay up? As I said previously Genworth have got no info about me, so do I need to send a SAR to Currys or Santander? Thanks

Genworth cannot tell Santander or Currys or anybody else to pay you or Di.

Or at least they can but the recipient of the instruction will be entitled to ignore it.

You can send a DSAR to whoever you like but it will not change the position. You can only complain to whoever sold the insurance which, from what you say, was DSG. As FOS has no jurisdiction, the only route then available to you would be the courts.

Your relation is right that banks are considering complaints back as far as 1986. That is because FOS jurisdiction against them goes back that far by virtue of the old Banking Ombudsman scheme. However, DSG was never a bank and so it is not surprising that it was never a member of the Banking Ombudsman scheme.

Hiya, no Santander did not uphold my complaint, the FOS suggested the Underwriter/Insurer avenue (Genworth), and they agreed to pay out, but did confirm they used the information provided by Santander.
Despite the fact Santander said they could not find the details of the account as such....

Send the SAR to Santander Data protection unit, its separate to their complaints dept.

I directly dealt with Genworth without the help from the FOS though, but they did say to contact the underwriter.
