I have AVG anti virus loaded on my laptop. I have it set to scan every day at a certain time and always ensure that I carry out the recommended updates etc etc.
For the last couple of days, when I switch on, I get a message saying that my Anti virus internal database is out of date. When I open the Control Centre it tells me that 'The red highlighted components are in an error state. Please pay urgent attention to them!' 'Anti virus database is out of date'.
I then click on recommendations and it says 'Anti Virus: Internal virus database version is 269.5.4/768 and was released on 19.4.2007 (30 days ago). Database update is recommended. Last test was run on 19.5.2007 at 11:08:20.'
If I then hit the Update button it says 'Your AVG program already has the latest updates installed and is fully upto date. Remember to check for new updates regularly.'
Any ideas? I am really worried that I am going to get a virus!!
Thanks for any advice.

Leo I have had a possibly similar problem - also the last couple of days noticeably. When I boot first time I get the error state message with greyed AVG icon in the SysTray. The full message I got actually advised me that something about the Update required me to Restart the computer (which is not very typical of AVG updates which usually are effective without a reboot).
Both yesterday and today, I have complied and restarted again. No error state - AVG seems happy! Today I thought "this is odd" and before I restarted I opened the AVG Centre which gave me a red line (error state) for the "Update Manager".
Then I clicked on "Update". I think I got something like "Cannot update at this time".
Then I restarted and after restart I tried a manual update again. "You already have the latest update from AVG" - same as you.
And until tomorrow, perhaps, there will be no further symptom of upset.
Weird one.
Edit - and BTW, my computer date is correct! (and I bet Leo's is too!) ...0 -
go to the avg free website and download the latest version of avg. uninstall the current version and reboot, then install the avg you just downloaded. it fixed the problem i had with avg0

My AVG Antivirus did it again this morning (greyed SysTray icon and error state in Update Manager requiring a restart). I reckon a fresh install is in order ....
Edit: ... yep that sorted it for me too! Thanks gaming_guy!0
