As you guys helped me splendidly with my last dilema ( 3 computers now up and running on a modem router) I now need more help! Hubby was online last night when his computer went loopy! Anyway on investigation, his firewall was disabled ( he swears he didnt touch it, I am now questioning the dog) Right, so I ran spybot, removed various things, but it cannot get rid of Comload, a !!!!!! site premium dial up  no, we have no idea how he got that either! Anyway, spybot cannot get rid of it, even on scanning on start up. Mcafee found comload, and saristar.dll, both premium dialers, and more suspect things. Now, big question is, I have quaranteed these, the removal is apparantly quite complex, and dont know if I want to attempt it, BUT as we are on broadband, these programes cant dial up can they. or can they? So, need I worry about getting rid of them, or can I leave them!
Firewall up and running now, and spybot imunised.Hubby and dog still being questioned.

Won't be hubby, not siding with him cause I'm a bloke.
It can't dial anything unless connected to a conventional, not broadband, telephone connection.
Wouldn't know how to remove it. But have you gone to control panel and add/remove programs?

I think Hubby should be put in quarantine too....:D
I would then put each of the names into Google and you should find info and maybe a tool for removing them easily.0 -
Also you may need to consider turning off your system restore if you are running XP / Me.
Most anti virus programmes will have difficulty removing permanently any trojans, dial ups, bugs if you have you're system restore enabled.
Temporarily disable it. Run your detection progammes and let it auto delete. Restart your system, run the detection programmes again. Repeat if necessary. When and if you are happy re-enable system restore.anger, denial, acceptance0 -
Cheers rover will try that, but it removes all resore points doesnt it? Not sure if I can cope with that, will have another look. Thanks djohn, I always hunt on google first, and should I quarantine hubby with dog, hmm me thinks they will have too much fun. Oh Al mac, if only they were in add /remove programs!Official member of the BB B*tches club. no 2 B*tch.

also before you reboot go to control panel, internet options and then clear temporary internet files, nasties hang around in there as well !!

Even better, as some gremlins stay in the hidden temporary internet file folders after the other files are gone, get rid of these as well.
Open Spybot S&D, go to the Tools > Secure Shredder, and minimise it.
Find C:\Documents and Settings\~username~\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
You can get there from Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Files then add \content.ie5 nb 5 even for IE6
You see either 4, 8, 12, etc folders. Drag the index.dat file into the Secure Shredder (window opens as you drag on to the taskbar button). Press "chop it away" in bottom right corner
Reboot. Now your TIF Properties will show 7 files, 5 folders instead of several hundred files0
