I'm running Win XP and the newest Media Player (9 or 10 i think), when i go to play a certain file it says at the bottom, "sending request for codec..." "connecting to server..." "downloading codec.." then straight away goes to "error downloading codec...", then it plays the file but without any sound. It is a file in a sequence of files, all of the others play perfect, they are the same author and everything. My friend also has a copy of the file, which plays ok on his, but when he sent it to me the same thing happens!!

The codec used is Divx, which i have (hence it plays the other ones) i have re-installed WMP (hence i know its the most recent! ;) )

Any advice?!?!

Thanks in advance

    Download the divx codec HERE

When you install, you don't need the media player as well. The codec will play divx files fine in MS media player.

OR install this one (All in 1 Codec Pack) :

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm

This works well for me and it is spyware free.

aggghh dont use media player for divx's and dont install codecs! use vlc -> https://www.videolan.org saves all this problem it uses hardware to decode vids, i havent had a divx that i havent been able to play for years now and i remember before vlc i used to have to faff around getting diff codecs etc for each film i played.
