Cinema Chat/Codes Poll

Not convinced it's a fair poll.
I don't want to be trawling through hundreds of "bagged 2 tickets to something we thought had filled" posts - but if a new wave of tickets are released with the same code, I want to hear about it.
With that in mind, I haven't voted on either option.0 -
I too haven't voted as the options don't cover it. Clearly it'd be silly to have chat as there's already an established thread for that.
I'm not quite sure where this has come from, as the thread has been running pretty well for x number of years with most of us using common sense, and then the odd newbie coming in and chatting, someone moans, then it all gets deleted. I believe that there was 2 reasons for a codes only thread. One is that codes get lost in amongst the chat - which is annoying, no one wants that. Two is that people used to pay a hefty amount for data on their phones and didn't want to be loading an email and a web page to find that someone thinks a movie with subtitles is stupid. Perhaps I'm being naive but I think the latter isn't really an issue any more, so the odd extra email isn't going to cause problems for the vast majority of users.
But since you're asking - yes, definitely want to know if there is new availability on a code, providing it's across several cinemas. I don't need to know if someone returns a ticket. That being said, if we have to be all strict about it, I am more than capable (and often do) check the old codes for films I've missed out on, so I wouldn't turn into a recluse who never sees a free movie if we can't repost codes.Comper and general cheapskate0 -
I vote yes as i wouldn't check again otherwise so i might miss out"what lies behind us & what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" Ralph Waldo Emerson0

So this is what most of you want?
New tickets released on codes board.
Tickets still available on codes board, although I think that could end up with 10 people posting the same thing?

I posted this in response to a comment on the discussion thread but am reposting here as all of the points I make are relevant to this poll.
I have never once said that I am not interested in posts related to new tickets for old codes.
I help a lot of people to get tickets so I sometimes do need to know this information. Please do not assume anything about me!
The point is where the information is posted.
Keeping the thread clutter free is the main priority and is helpful to all and actually makes it far easier to check a code for a film that you might want tickets to.
How does one know that there are multiple tickets available for any location? It might be that a few cinemas show availability but that they are returns, possibly two or three tickets at most. That's not worth alerting thousands of people. Don't forget that this is not the only forum where this information is posted and if people are determined to get a ticket after missing the first release, they will check for themselves.
The codes only thread is to let people know that a particular film is being shown for free on a particular date and to tell you how to claim a ticket.
Strictly speaking, all that is needed is the name of the film, the date, the media partner and the pin/code or password if necessary.
However, it is not unusual for the following to happen -
A newbie will post the name of the film and date and the SFF pin but can't post a link .
Second post is a direct link (unnecessary)
Third post is the list of cinemas (unnecessary)
Fourth post is someone who puts all of the above into one post (totally unnecessary)
Often in between some of these posts we get chat!
But quite often someone will tell us that all tickets are gone (completely and totally unnecessary)
Then we get the "more tickets available" post. (no comment)
After this we get the even less helpful "all tickets are gone" or even worse, someone saying the code doesn't work!
All this will be followed by one or two posts telling us all that no chat is allowed. And usually followed by a Troll who thinks it is clever to chat just for the hell of it.
This is all for one code! At this point we are halfway through one page and if, which is quite usual these days, there is a second or subsequent code, we could fill two pages on the No chat thread with one film and often there are two or more films live at any one time.
All this has happened in the past and we end up with a handful of pages for two or three films/codes and I haven't even mentioned the duplicated codes posted because people can't see through the clutter or use the search facility or make a mistake when entering the code into the search facility.
Let's not forget the even less helpful posts telling us that they have returned/cancelled two tickets for X film at Y cinema!
So whilst you don't think my post about letting the thread disintegrate into chaos is constructive, it might well be a good way of letting you all see how bad the thread can be and used to be in the past.
You are far too naive if you think that all we will get on the No Chat thread is one of two post telling us that hundreds of tickets are now available for a film without most if not all, of the above.
We get people who get all huffy because chat has been deleted and post it again! We get people posting asking why one kind of post telling us about availability is allowed but theirs wasn't. Why should a Board Guide have to spend their time continually deleting post and explaining why whilst justifying why some are allowed?
Keeping it clean and uncluttered and simple is really the best way. This is experience talking.
Other than Sky, most agencies do not release a huge amount of tickets on the same code anyway. Usually although not always, they issue a new code instead. So there will be a new alert for tickets when that code is posted.
And to address this point of "I don't have Sky/Virgin etc" so they should be in a separate thread, that's a load of rubbish. Personally, I don't care if a film is showed solely in Scotland or London but I'm not advocating that they shouldn't be on the cinema code thread. If we went down that route we'd end up with a thread for every town in the nation and several media partner threads too. Utterly ridiculous.0 -

Couldn't have put it better myself.
Been there, got the t-shirt. What a nightmare it was.
Frequently, after someone discussed (on the right thread) about how good/bad a film was at "where" and "when", there were subsequent posts from other members "complaining" that they NEVER EVEN KNEW about the specific screening taking place.
Why? Because they couldn't see the wood for the trees!
Codes thread so full of irrelevant drivel it was very easy to miss the single necessary post with the important detail.
You could often show them the relevant post a day or two later and they'd respond with (paraphrasing) "I don't know how I could have missed it" - I knew exactly why !!!
People have posted about NOT having loads of time on their hands and are NOT sitting at their PC all day long constantly checking codes for tickets becoming available.
Sadly it is exactly those people who missed out the most because they had to skim-read the over-long, over-stuffed, clogged and excessively bloated codes thread which lacked REAL & TOTAL CLARITY

Completely agree with quoia and poochface above. Can remember how annoyingly bloated the thread used to get a few years ago. Strictly new codes only is the most sensible option in my opinion.0

I will leave this poll open over the weekend but looking at the results it seems like 'new tickets released' will be staying on the codes only thread judging by the results so far.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Sarah, do you realise that this whole exercise is silly. If you ask a child if they want sweets for dinner or a proper cooked meal, they will invariably pick sweets even though you know its the wrong choice. This situation is the same, if you want a smooth running forum it must adhere to rules YOU SET. When you let everyone have a say, it quickly results in chaos.
What you should do now is let the majority decision run for a trial period and if the codes thread degenerates to a complete mess, go back to your system of ruthless deletions to keep the thread tidy, and don't listen to the complaints ever again.0 -
Why is there no option for "Sarah1972 should stop chatting on the no chat thread"?0
