Hi, I am new to apple products, I've just bought an iphone 4s, there is a swoosh sound when I send a text that wasnt there at first, I've had the phone for 3 days and I cant seem to get rid of it, its not happening for email, I have that set to none and thats fine, just this annoying sound that appeared an hour ago, is there a way to fix this?, google searches either sugest hacking the phone or having the whole thing on silent niether of which I want - any help would be appreciated

The option, as you say, can be turned off for email, but I haven't found a way for sms. I live with it, used to it from my old one, as it was temperamental in sending, so it was useful for me.
As you are new with iphone/apple products just a bit of info to say if you don't like the current ringtones/alert sounds (email, call, message, etc) you can actually, and pretty easily, add in your own ones. Granted not as easily as copying over, but still easy enough to do.0 -
Thanks, this is the most expensive and best quality phone I've ever had, its really baffled me that I cant do such a seemingly simple function, I'm loving the ease of use and huge amount of options but I just dont want a sound at all, not even one of my own choice when I'm sending a text. All power is from within and therefore under our control0

Is it not just in settings and then sounds like on the iPhone 4?0 -
I wish it were that simple, you cant set it to none for email but not for text (sms) its really strange as this noise only started today, just had a thought if I can choose my sound, I wonder if I could choose a silent sound iykwim, might be a bit techie for me but suggestions are welcome. All power is from within and therefore under our control0

I just read through that thread, I'll try the mms trick in a bit and report back, there are loads of people having the same issue it would appear, having said that I cant quite believe how much I adore this phone. All power is from within and therefore under our control0

That is the sound of your hard earned cash "swooshing" out of your wallet at high internet speed every time you visit the app store, the only way to get rid of it is to see the light and sell said iphone 4 to some other mug and go and get yourself a nice Android device, the samsung galaxy s3 or even the new nexus 4 (if you can get it) does not come with such silly noises

The OP would then just have to live with all the problems an Android devices brings.
As to the original question, no, there's isn't a way to turn that sound off unless you flip the silent switch.0
