Cat - wobbly / dizzy when standing up

Hi all,

Recently adopted a cat, she's possibly around 10 years old
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4297237

I've got her booked in to see the vet on Saturday morning, but I just wanted to check with you guys in case anyone's cat has had a similar thing...

She's absolutely fine for 99.9% of the time, but... She'll be lying down, purring away, happy as anything and then she gets up and wobbles, stops purring - it's almost as if she's got a bit of a headrush. This lasts for about 2-3 seconds and then she’s back to normal, purring and wanting attention.

I've tried googling it but I can't find anything similar - the other cases seem to be cats who are dizzy for a much longer time and can't walk straight etc. Everything else with her is normal (well normal for a cat you've only had for less than 2 weeks) she's eating & using the litter tray regularly.

I was hoping to wait until after the 2 weeks exclusion period at the beginning of the insurance policy before I took her to the vets, but I'm not comfortable with waiting until the end of next week in case this is something serious :(

    blood pressure possbily??
I only say that because *I* get that. I can be fine sitting down at the PC then get up to answer the door or the phone and feel wobbly and have to sit down again.
without examining the cat and seeing it in action it'd be hard to diagnose anything and we're not allowed to give medical advice on here anyway.

  • Since it doesn't happen all the time, is there any chance that you can video it happening for the vet to see what she looks like when she does it?

  • Phew! The trip to the vets went ok - the vet listened to moggy's heart and said her heartbeat was a bit slow, but seeing as though she probably hasn't had much exercise over the last few years, it should improve - so we are making sure we play with her every day, and we're switching her over (slowly) to a senior high meat content diet too. (I'm going to run an advanced search on here in a minute but if anyone knows where I can get a single pack of Bozita to try it out...?)

The bad news is she's going to have to have most of her teeth out :(

Thank you for the responses - I know we're not supposed to ask for medical advice - I really just wanted to know if I should have got her to the vets earlier or if anyone had come across it before. I haven't seen her do it since Friday morning so fingers & paws crossed :)

Jonesy....glad to hear she has nothing serious going on, and try not to worry too much about the teeth. My rescue boy Woody had most of his taken out and it has not slowed him down at the food bowl at all!
Re. the trial of Bozita...you could look over on petforums where there is a Food Club set up for just this purpose, or you could try Mutley and Mog who I think send out small orders.

    Thank you
She's going in next Friday to have blood tests done before she has any teeth out - keeping fingers (and paws) crossed :o

Just having a quick look on Pet Forums now!
