I am soon to be transferred to digital tv by Virgin media.I would like to buy a dvd recorder hopefully that can record one programme while watching another. This is easy, but i would like it to record to disc rather than hard drive. Are there any m/cs. on the market that do this? If so ,any recommendations. Thanks

I'm with Virgin you don't need any special make. Just buy one that records to Disc not Hdd.You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0

Skint. Can you record one channel while watching another?0

I've been using a cheapo LiteOn DVD/HDD recorder (5025) for about a year now with no problems. Has it's own analogue tuner so you can record one channel while watching another unless they're both on digital as you'd need 2 digiboxes to achieve this. You can choose to record to disk or HDD & transfer either way - HDD is easier if you want to edit out adverts & 'top & tail' programmes.0

Tallman, Thanks for the reply and i think i understand what you mean.Ithink my problem will be that i will only have the input from digital, no analogue. Is there anyone out there with Virgin who has overcome this problem,or how can i do it. What i think i need is a recorder with one digital input to two tuners that can record to disc. I dont mind if it has a hard drive as well0

Have you considered the Virgin V+ set top box? It has 3 tuners, which means that you can record 2 different channels while watching a 3rd. It records to its own internal hard drive. If you want to archive a recording, there is an option to record to external DVD recorder.
So with this setup, any cheap and cheerful DVD recorder will do.
The V+ box does many other things, such as pause live TV, download shows that you may have missed, etc, etc.0 -
I'd econ the option of V+, an excellent bit of kit. I've never bothered archiving anything but there is a port on the box and menu options to do it. One other benefit of V+ is that it is a HD box although there is not much HD content at the moment.
It costs an extra £15 a month if you're on the M or L TV package or £10 if you're on XL.It's my problem, it's my problem

Thanks Jzpop and Bill. It looks like V+ is the way to go,I can probably borrow a recorder for the odd time i will need one.I did'nt want to buy a recorder with an analogue tuner with it being switched off in the near future. Thanks again,i seem to have lost the thanks button0

One other point before ordering a V= it may be worth phoning up and threatening to leave as you can get a better deal off them.
I was paying £56.50 a month for M phone, L Broadband and M TV including a V+. Phoned them up and now I'm paying £45 a month for L phone, L broadband and XL TV including a V+.
Bets to phone up before ordering the V+ box as with that you're tied into a 12 month contract I believe.
Apologies if you've already done this. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

Have you checked with your family that you can afford this?
