Advice needed...

Hi all... I hope someone can help me with clearing this up. I have a specific question about a DLA letter (DBD545).

I was refused, and then together with my local advisor, we went on to ask for an appeal and sent off the form along with some additional evidence. I received an acknowledgement, then another letter/form asking about stays in hospital and for my bank details (twice).

I've searched on the internet, and found that people receive this after they have won an appeal, but my claim certainly hasn't gone that far yet. There hasn't been time.

So, I guess I'm asking if anyone has not been awarded DLA after receiving this letter? I daren't phone them, and the constant cycle of getting my hopes up followed by misery is not helping.

The letter:
About the claim for Disability Living Allowance

We have reconsidered our decision about your claim for the allowance.

What we want you to do

Before we can continue with your claim, we need you to answer the questions in the section called "Your reply" and provide us with any dates since xxxxxxx.

Please send your reply back to us [...etc...]

What happens next

We will write to you again as soon as we can tell you more about your claim for the allowance.

If it is good news, I can't understand why they've gone to such length not to actually tell me anything.

Cheers,

Pam

when you ask for an appeal, they automatically do a reconsideration.
maybe they have decided to make an award based on the reconsideration without the need for an appeal.
    phone them and ask
  • Thank you so much for your advice Nannytone.

After reading your reply I swallowed my fear and phoned them up, and what you thought is exactly what has happened. They have reconsidered without the need for an appeal.

I am so relieved I can't tell you. It means so much, especially in terms of how much time my carer can now afford to spend with me.
