Just in case you've always wanted to visit Burkina Faso:
Turkish Airlines are offering promo round trip fares from Istanbul to Ouagadougou for 219 euros, for flights between 15th December and 15th March. Just did a quick search for Christmas week and these fares are actually available.
Great Value for anyone in Europe, since so many budget airlines offer great fares to Istanbul

Fantastic price!
I have wanted to travel Africa for a while, and not a year goes by where I don't try and make it work. And every year I hit the African block:
Safety
Logistics
Overland border crossing
Visa costs
Almost every single African country that I have ever looked at is either an issue above, or the neighbouring country is one of the issues above.
So, when I looked at this country (which I've never heard of) I was intrigued and interested. But of course I should have known £60 for a visa.
It really bugs me, such a fantastic price, a country which teems African Culture and then bang - rip off visa costs.
I was reading a memo a month back and apparently Vietnam have increased the cost of their visa, tourism into the country was down 15% in the 6 months studied on the previous cost.
Tourism is free money for the economy, yet so many greedy governments are too busy trying to line their pockets.
It's a real shame, the country looks like it is desperately crying out for an economical boost.0 -
you just have to factor in the visa cost if you want to visit these countries and be thankful that for most of the places we want to visit, there's no problem if we have the money to do it. Several of my Kenyan friends have had visa applications for the UK refused for no legitimate reason (and the high cost of the visa is not even refunded)0

I have actually been to Ouagadougou. Almost nothing to see although you could head south from there to Ghana which I think is more geared up for tourism. I had to send my passport to Paris for the Burkinabe visa if I recall correctly.0

That is one of the main reasons they are poor.
They make it difficult to visit. A casual tourist will choose somewhere where you don't have to climb through hoops to spend your money.
These same countries normally make it just as hard for business to set up.By the time everyone gets their bribe money, there's nothing left in the pot to actually make it worth while setting up there0 -

.
Surely that is similar to the cost of a visa for China or India? And in any case, the airport departure taxes charged by most countries are set at a similar level.0
