  • Look on the bright side......they caught it and stopped it so you should feel cheered by that rather than scared!

Online shopping is probably safer than a shop, where you give your card (which includes your name, signature, the card number, valid dates, and CVV code) to a complete stranger!

My dad's card number was once used in the Far East yet he's never been there and has only ever used the internet once in his life!

  • Don't worry - if any transactions appear on your account that you didn't authorise - just tell the card company that and don't pay it. It is their money not yours........... MUCH better than using your debit card.

But most of the time the shop don't even get to see your card, rather asking you to "shove it in the reader", where they get limited information for the purposes of processing the order (card number, valid dates, no CVV, name or signature as far as I'm aware)

Online you give them everything needed to go and buy stuff from other websites, unless your card is enrolled in 3D Secure or VBV.

Quite right to feel violated, however you are protected against card not present purchases, provided you haven't been negligent and not linked in any way to the transaction :)
