Shouldn't you be asking the bride what help she wants?
On the day, make sure her dress is always sitting nicely, help her to carry her train, carry her lippy and a mirror in case she needs a touch up, take control of younger bridesmaids if necessary, make sure she gets a drink if the photos take for ever and its hot.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

If she can't think of anything you'll be fine!!!
I am getting married and all that i am really asking of my 2 bridesmaids (both my sisters) is to help out with dress etc on the day and be excited for me. In my eyes that means getting involved in the planning and generally wanting to party with me?!
I am asking for their input into the Hen do - although i actually want to arrange it myself so I am sure that i have a do I want and that no-one can get an L plate of fake veil near me. hehe
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

well - I have not really finalised the ideas yet but....
I don't really want one, but have been told by sil and mil that if i don't have one they'll organise one for me and i know that i would not have fun at that (we have different ideas on nights out etc). They would have me in a veil, flashing devil horns and L plates. Nothing wrong with that but just not my thing.
Also lots of my friends don't necessarily all know each other and are spread around the country. Plus, have a sister who is underage (17) and my mum doesn't really drink or do the 'pub' thing so wouldn't want to come along.
So i've decided to organise something I want to do and invite everyone - then its up to them whether they come and join in or not.
currently thinking of booking out a local restaurant I know well and having a lovely big meal, with our girly glad rags on - glamour being the theme. Followed by C0cktails in the mailmaison next door. thought it would be more inclusive of everyones taste
would love to go away for a night but everyone is on different budgets and we are having a weekend wedding which will cost guests a bit to attend so want to keep costs low.
have you any great ideas i can pinch then???

Its difficult isent it?
The Bride wanted a night away at a Spa but too many people thought it was a bit expensive(which it was!!) & then a night with bingo & cocktails.
So we are having the bingo & cocktails & maybe a detox day somewhere more local than Stobo.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I have only ever been a bridesmaid once and this is what I had to do ....
- surprise bride and groom with two secret tiers to their wedding cake (i.e. chocolate and carrot which they loved)
- find a matching bridesmaid dress when my mate was kind of forced into inviting her sister to be a bridesmaid as well and travel half-way across Berkshire to collect it
- making the favours
- make hair appointments for sister and mother of the bride in a hairdressers near the hotel the wedding was taking place in but not in the one the bride was having her hair done in as there was a lot of friction between them - I had never met either of them so describing their hair to the hairdressers was quite difficult ....
- find a dressmaker to alter the dress
- find a photographer (luckily a friend did this and altered the dress and also stayed with the Bride;s mother and sister on the morning to keep them out of mischief / stop them winding up the bride)
- book a hotel for the bride, my family and the bride's baby the night before the wedding
- when we turned up the afternoon before the wedding to find that despite several phone calls and letters of confirmation there was no booking (!!!!!!!), send manager to move someone out of the room to ensure bride had somewhere to stay and didn't know anything about it (I later foudn out the manager gave up his room and slept in the bar .. .and rightly so, it was his fault)
- send Manager to neighbouring hotel to collect a travel cot for the bride's baby
- on the morning of the wedding accompany bride to hairdressers that neither of us had ever been to and describe in great detail exactly how she had had her hair done the previous week in a practice run ...
- on the morning of the wedding help bride's father get dressed (!!!) boot my children out of their room so he had somewhere to get dressed (!!!!) organise a taxi to get him from his hotel to our hotel to make sure he did get dressed (!!!)
- and on the morning of the wedding, make sure that we had alternative transport when the Wedding car broke down and they had no alternative one to send and, in fact, offered us no alternative service
I think that's it ... and I can look back on it now and smile because it was a beautiful day, and my mate looked absolutely gorgeous, but it was quite stressful ... and it's really hard dealing with it all and not letting on at all. The only thing she obviously found out about was the wedding car letting us down. Oh yeah, and the taxi taking us to the wrong wedding venue.
But a great day was had by all and my mate and her husband remain very happily married. That's Numberwang!0 -
