Meter reading Dates

Does anyone know if you can force an electricity supplier to only use actual meter readings? If not is it possible to find out in advance what day the meter readings are due for the next year so that you can submit actual readings rather than have them use estimates? Are the meter reading dates set in stone or do they move them about?

Suppliers are not that bothered nowadays if they use actual or estimated. I work for EDF who send me out all the time to propertys to collect only one of the two meter readings at every quarter, Even tho I am there, right next to the gas meter, I will just take the electric reading. next quarter it will be the other way round. Metering costs put a dent in their mark-up so they keep it to a minimum. EDF started that off years ago when they moved into the UK. Now all the others do the same thing. British Gas have started doing the same thing in the last few years. They want the customers to supply the readings really, theres more profit then. Brit Gas now cold call people on the phone , especially retired folk who arn t online, badgering them to get under the stairs, sink etc to get the readings for them. A very dubious practice0

If you get an estimated reading then you can read it yourself and get a corrected and accurate bill.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

- they're only as good or up to date as their information
- lack of regular information leads to an irregular graph
- regular information leads to a smooth actual use curve
Once a month do your read, and put it on your online account, haven't got one ?, make one happen. You will get a warm comfortable feeling knowing they are treating you in the same considered fair way you are helping to inform them of your real~world usage.
Its a computer - don't let it guesstimate - give it info it can work with to keep it and yourself up to date.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I dont think they are bothered because it always works in their favour if you use more electricity than they estimate because when you eventually catch up you pay for the electricity at the new price.
This post was prompted because of an experience with Eon. Price increased on the contract 3 days before the end of the quarter. Bill comes using their estimate, we spot it send in revised reading, new bill comes all 750KWH are on at new price. Plus because its commercial and 750KWH are booked out over the 10 days between old bill and new their computer says usage is over 33KWH a day so Vat goes up to 20% and bang on Climate Levy Charge. This "error" then adds 24% to the real bill!
Send in complaint new bill comes out knocking off all charges from past 12 months recharging back again to come up with the real figure. If domestic customers think that their bills can be hard to understand you should see our commercial one and its only for the same amount as an average house.0
