Hello Everyone
My son wants to make movies to post on you tube. We have a digital camcorder VP-D70 Samsung but no lead to fit to computer. Its a small DV 4pin.
Also can anyone tell me of any good software he can buy to help him edit his movies?
Many thanks

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

Does your computer have a firewire card or input?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Connections
Connector Types:
1 x composite video/audio output ( mini-phone 3.5mm )
1 x IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK) ( 4 PIN FireWire )
1 x S-Video output ( 4 PIN mini-DIN )
1 x microphone ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm )
How do you propose to connect it to the computer?
Once over that hurdle, I'm sure that we can come up with software suggestions.

Hi
Thanks for the replies
The connection is
1 x IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK) ( 4 PIN FireWire )
I have no idea how to connect it to the computer as I tried to buy a lead a couple of years ago and had no joy! Also there is no driver with the camcorder.
I've just brought my son a dell laptop details are below

I realise this is no help to the O.P. but for anyone wanting to buy a PC that comes with free movie software, I'd recommend a Mac (new or used). Since about 2000 all Macs have come with "iMovie" which is really easy to use and to burn DVDs. I do all my holiday movies (and you-tube stuff) with it. I have a Sony DCR-HC22E camcorder (which wasn't even listed as compatible). I bought a Firewire lead from Jessops but there are much cheaper places.0

Not sure if the 1501 has firewire, but a 6400 (about £50 more) has, and you don't need a driver, you just plug a firewire lead (sold just about anywhere, Curry's etc), into the port, and moviemaker will pick up the camera and import the video.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Looking through the specs it doesn't seem to have a firewire.
Could I buy a program like Dazzle? Would that give me the right leads? But if ever I stray from the path I follow

Have you got the laptop yet?
Dazzle is a plugin thing. Plugs into usb, and has composite and s-video inputs, which aren't as high quality as firewire.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Don't think quality is an issue for YouTube. It will be fine.
If you are going to be using it at home, better to buy this; http://www.amazon.co.uk/GSA-E20N-External-USB2-0-Writer-Capture/dp/B000NNS2X60 -
If there is a spare PC card slot, this is the option for the best quality; http://www.allmacshop.co.uk/?page=proddetail&prod=15929 (Just an indicative link)
I'm assuming PC Express.0
