Some good savings happening so well done.
Have just put up another £300 today which was unexpected as thought it would be £50 at most so am very happy about that. Possibly the last this month but you never know!
£592.76/£3000 - 19.7%
MARCH £62.38/2500 -
Oh Lordy!
Can I join?? I was actually thinking last night that since Other Half and I paid off our mortgage early in October 2011 <apart from my ISA each year> I have squandered all my salary each year......
This might help me to actually save!
Full £12,000 for me please in 2012!

Welcome to the thread and best of luck with your savings.0 -
Getting paid about £200 next week, so taking out a potential for using about £15 of that this weekend, I will be £182.50 up on the start of the year, which is great seen as I have had to work reduced hours this month due to exams.Good for you saving already! It's roughly when I started taking a proper interest in saving money and I'm very glad I did
I'm now just a few years older and have a decent amount of savings for my age I think!
Thanks, it amazes me how many people I know with part time jobs who have no savings at all. I have always seemed to have an interest in money and savings, and am glad that I have been able to build up my savings.

I am reading a very interesting book (poor economics- actual economics book not a financial management book though it sounds like it). I thought you lovely savers would like to hear about it. About 2/3 through the book it began to ask the question why the very poor (less than $1 USD a day) do not save. It runs through the structural impediments, not being able to afford the banking fees, not being able to get to the bank etc, but more interestingly it speaks about how a farmer will choose to purchase fertiliser immediately after a harvest but won't immediately before the new harvest. In the time between these two times, if the money is kept in the house, emergencies happen so the money is spent. One of the participants spoke about why he bought the fertiliser, when he did after the harvest, he could then "suspend the event" or work out another way to pay for the items/emergency including working more in his second job.
It also speaks about how the very poor act as though they are hedge fund managers but with more risk. It's a very good book, I would suggest it to anyone who enjoys economics.
I'm thinking about putting more of my money into my ISA tonight, but I don't want to leave myself short.
Sounds like an interesting book. I enjoy reading these sort of economics in the real world type books, so will look into it. I really enjoyed reading Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics, have you read those?Save 12K in 2013, #203.

I've been umming and aahing about what to do with my spare money for a while. I have £2000 extra in one account and £300 in another. £1000 I put aside for car insurance and emergencies, so I have £1300 spare.
My options were:
(a) Move into ISA to get closer to my £15k flat deposit
(b) Spend it on braces
(c) Keep it in the current acct (rather than using ISA allowance) and spend it on a big holiday come May.
I've gone for (a), moving £1100 to the ISA and now have £8500 in savings.
Braces can wait a bit longer and I'm sure I can get another £1500 together before May if needs be.
So... 1/6 into the challenge, with little coming in next few months because of (c) above.

I am doing well so far, above my target for this month.
I am currently saving £200 p/w straight out of my wages. I will be putting this up to about £250-£300 as soon I'll be allowed to pay towards the company pension.
Also had my holiday pay paid out, I have put £800 into the savings for this and with the other £200 I brought myself an xbox. :j
As of tomorrow (25/01/13) I will have saved £1740-ish :cool:0 -
