Why save? Simple: if I don't, I'll either have no money or I'll be in debt. I've been there too many times in the past ( a long time ago but still kick myself)

I remember debating where to save and it seeming so complicated to choose that I didn't bother and spent it all (and more) instead.

For me it doesn't matter if the interest rate is zero, it's still worth it, the important thing is not where I save it's that I do it. The trick is to save it somewhere it's not too easy to get at, eg not in the bank where I have my current account, or it's all too easy to move some out if my current account gets worryingly low.

And another trick is this site, and in particular this thread, for motivation, thanks all!

Hey all, payday was Tuesday so £797 moved to savings for the two of us :0) £12 was cahback from Quidco, £265 straight into sharesaves with work, £70 to share incentive plan & 450 to first direct regular saver (topping up month as opened in Dec but didnt put the full amount in).

2 credit card balances (from holiday spending and christnas expenses) transferred to a 0% card to (12 months) which will help facilitate more savings.

Also transferred funds from last regular saver into an ISA also to tale advantage of the tax free ness.
I love days like today where can get all pennies sorted!
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!
  • Payday so soon! I'm itching to save as I'm desperate for a new car either this year or next!

I've just looked at my car insurance, and I've realised that I have probably paid over £500 in interest by paying monthly. So from every month onwards, I'm going to withdraw £100 cash and give it to my parents to keep, so when next year comes, I can pay my car insurance off in full.

I currently have £4080 in my ISA, I need to fill this before the deadline in April. Should be doable.

Also, I owe a family member £90 so I will have to part with that on payday. My car will need 2 tyres in the coming weeks so that's another £100.

There always seems to be some expense, but hey. I've stopped spending money on my card at work, used to use it everyday. February is a short month, so should be a tad easier than January!

I'm due some inheritance, wish it would hurry up. Would put hat straight into the house deposit.

Keep going guys, you know it's worth it.

Most definitely - January was a sod of a month for me, especially as I had to replace the hoover.

  • Payday today so new payment has gone into my company pension of £402.08.

That puts me at £1,002.08 so far this month - on target to reach the £12k :)

Will submit my January totals via the Google Docs form at the end of the month.

Finally done the transfers after my payday so I have updated my signature and the spreadsheet. Really pleased to have put away £1187. This is £500 into the Emergency fund, £362 into the mortgage fund, £20 into a Child Trust Fund and £305 into pension. I have had to transfer £250 out of my oil/holiday/Christmas fund (I only put it in yesterday!) to help pay for heating oil. Cold weather has caused that but can't be helped.
Just realised I made a mistake when adding my total to the spreadsheet, how can I change it? Sorry!

    Payday today...

    Me too

Although actually it's nearly all gone already - or it would be if Halifax faster payments were working for me :o Anyway my January total is £400. Not as much as I hoped but it's been one of those months and I still have a hefty credit card bill (I usually pay it all off monthly but I let it creep up over christmas :()

Oh well here's to a better February :D

  • Everyone sounds like they are doing brilliantly....I sold a few bits and pieces on eBay at the weeknd so thats another few pounds towards Januarys total. My payday isn't until 31st Jan...yup right up to the bitter end so won't be able to do a proper update for another week and a half. I'm going on a hen weekend this weekend, I have put money aside for that but you know what like..... when booze is involved you don't care how much you spend....deal with it (and the hangover) later!
