House Insurance / Boarding

Hi,
I would like to rent a room out to a friend for 4 months. I'm on income support, so will be making sure I inform the relevant people there and also Council Tax.
I currently have house insurance (buildings and contents) on the property. Does any body have experience of whether I need to pay extra insurance, and also if I have to inform the mortgage provider?
Thanks in advance.

Home Insurance company, yes you have to inform them ( no extra cost normally for one lodger) and in regard to Mortgage I don't know the answer, but probably yes to be on the safe side.
In regard to Home Insurance, the lodger will have to arrange cover for their own personal possessions, as your Contents Insurance probably won't extend to cover them. The theft cover will be restricted to forcible and/or violent entry to or exit from the property. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thank you for answering. The insurance company have agreed to cover me but doesn't include any accidental damage by the lodger or theft etc.0
