I am guilty of boiling the kettle, getting side tracked and having to boil it again(and again).

We only have gas central heating so I couldn't use a whistling kettle on the ceramic hob BUT, I googled and found that you can get whistling electric kettles!

Beware if your family are used to you having a hob kettle and swap to an electric one.

My daft son came for a visit and put the NEW electric kettle on the hob thinking it was still the whistling one and melted the damn thing.

The problem with my OH is that these kettles still switch themselves off so he ignores the whistle if he's "busy"

The old plastic drawers from fridges and freezers are also good for growing salad and other shallow rooted crops in if you are short of garden space.

~I use my old one as a peg tray, and fits nicely on top of the tumbler in kitchen :)

just had a read through! some excellent tips here thankyou:T

Tru - we have a radiator in the kitchen that has never worked properly - we don't miss it as its warm enough without it since we took off the kitchen door to make some more room. My DH also has a stationary fetish:cool:

I keep all my old wrapping paper, ribbons and gift bags in a big box to reuse and collect other peoples if they don't want them.

Keep the good tips coming folks!:)

  • DD found this awesome recipe on Bakerella and this is the version that she makes every year.

    Christmas Crack

Chocolate, use milk or white (White is more Christmassy)
    M&Ms
    Salted Peanuts
Disney Cereal Stars or you could use any crunchy cereal

No measuring required, but you do need plenty of chocolate DD uses the 30p Tesco cheapo one.

Melt Chocolate put the Cereal and melted chocolate into a bowl, add the m&ms and peanuts last or they sink to the bottom. Make sure everything in the bowl is coated in chocolate.
Put baking Parchment on a baking tray pour the mixture onto the parchment, as flat as you can but making sure that it is all connected with chocolate. Sprinkle with glitter or sparkling sugar anything that festive that you have and put in the fridge to set.
When set break into pieces and store in an airtight container in the fridge.

You can actually use anything crunchy in this recipe such as pretzels, smarties, nuts, dried cranberries etc
Just go mad, it is so much fun to make :D
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hmmm. Wonder if I can get away with not having a tree??? There may be riots.

I saw a picture of something that M@tal@n are selling which was one upright plank of wood with three horizontal planks graduating down in size so it made a 'tree' shape. It looked really pretty with baubles etc pinned to it and it would be *so* easy to make yourself.

Personally I was after just collecting the broken branches from the pub car park when the tree sellers leave at the end of the day to lay across the fireplace but DH wasn't having any of it. (We really don't have room for a whole tree!) We have ended up with the smallest tree I could find which DH likes to refer to as our 'Stone Henge' tree (Spinal Tap gag.) :rotfl:
