home improvments

Hi all first time poster here.

Im looking to have central heating ,and double glazing fitted in the very near future,to a traditonal three bedroom terrace. And was wondering of guide prices to pay for both.

People i have spoke to have suggested about £2k for central heating, and £3k for the windows and one door. Are these good examples?Or can i get them much cheaper.

Many thanks,any help much appreciated.:D

Hi it will depend on lots of things really. How many and what type/quality windows you want? Central heating , do you already have a boiler/radiators at all?

Thanks for the reply,im just after regular pvc white windows,i did get a quote a while back for six windows and a back door for £2.5k.

I dont have any radiators, just a boiler that kicks in when i turn the hot tap on,sorry to sound a bit thick Lol.

That seems quite cheap to me for the windows, but it depends on the type of openers etc.
My sister is currently changing her boiler, she already has all rads. in place along with electrical work etc. and she's been quoted about £1800.

When i say a while back it was three years ago and it was a local firm.

So Im probably looking at over £2k for central heating then, judging by what your sister is paying.

Last year I paid £1700 for a replacement boiler (already had rads) and £2600 for new double glazing, this was for 3 normal size windows, two small windows and patio doors. The house is a 2 bed terrace (in Dorset).

There are some double glazing firms that will give you on line quotes, you select the windows you want then they give you the quote including fitting.

    Hope this helps.
  • Contact carpenters / joiners ! many will have good contacts with double glazing manufacturers, or take rough sizes of what you require, and phone them yourself for the best price, supply only, then employ a fitter.
DON'T FIT ANY WINDOW WITHOUT A VENT

Your Heating: you could purchase a "heating pack" which consists of boiler, radiators, and a quantity of pipe, a lot of people do this, and then employ a corgi man to install, Ultimate discount Heating are one of the cheapest, think the website is https://www.mrcenralheating.co.uk . Only go this route if you can arrange an installer beforehand.
DON'T ALLOW THE WISE GUYS TO FIT RADS BEHIND DOORS ! WHEN THEY SHOULD BE FITTED UNDER WINDOWS ( in most cases )

Where are you Pizzaboy? from the football thread i'm taking it you're a liverpool fan.. i think.
If you're fairly local i know a gas fitter who'd do it for a lot less if you bought the radiators yourself as mentioned above.
