Anyone had problems with the horror that is Samsung KIES lately?
For reasons I can't establish it refuses to recognise my Galaxy Ace that it formally did. It gives out the message that the device is not supported.
I'm running the latest version of KIES with Window 8 64bit.
Maybe a conincidence but Win 8 did have a couple of updates the other day.

I've got KIES running on a netbook with Windows & and thats fine and dandy with the phone.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Not lately( due to given up which is unlike me ) but ive had issues with it trying to recognise my GS2. Ive double and triple checked I had the most up to date version of kies, checked the interweb for help and made sure any settings on the phone were as they should be as per various websites.

Its just daft they use kies, why not just do it as an OTA update.

    KIES is AWFUL....

It rarely updates properly. I usually have to uninstall it then install the new version.

I plug my phone in and window pops up asking what i want to do with it. I can browse the phone no problem.

I look in kies and it says trying to connect. Cannot find device.

Well its working properly under windows.

    Its terrible software.

As above i dont use it either. I do try it every now and then to see
    if they fixed it.
Last one had some stupid IM service. But still could not detect the phone.

Why is it that mobile phone companies don't seem to be able to offer good PC/Phone software interfaces? I abandoned Kies pretty quickly after I changed to Samsung this year. I did the same with the Nokia equivalent a couple of years ago. Shocking!

Seen some leads advertised for charging and some say charging and data.

I wonder if thats why. But the lead that came with the phone is about 12" long.
    Useless.

And the PC connects to the phone correctly so why doesn't KIES?

If the phone companies offered the updates OTA then there would be no need for using software like kies to update the phone. my next phone Ill research how the phone would be given new updates.

HTC managed it so why cant samsung.

If you think it's bad on Windows you should try the Mac version for a truly terrible experience!

Every time I start it up it says there's a new version. I opt to upgrade so it downloads the update then says device detected remove the USB connection to continue. The only problem is there is no device plugged in or connected via wireless or Bluetooth! Stuck

I know, I'll uninstall it and download the latest copy except that doesn't work because the download isn't the latest version, as soon as it installs it says there is an update available and downloads it, see above.

I've given up on Kies all together and I now use Airdroid.

Download it from the App store and fire it up. Then go to

http://web.airdroid.com and either enter the passcode on your device or use the device camera on the QR code and you're connected.

Despite using the browser your data does not cross the internet, your device is connected wirelessly to your PC or Mac, a bit like Kies Air only loads better. :D

Data transfer is quick and painless. :T

For a company that produces such fine products Samsung seem to have completely lost the plot with Kies!
