Gas bill - question
Hello,
I've just moved in this house.
I decided to stay for a month with the current supplier, British Gas, to get an idea of how much it was going to cost us before doing a comparison.
From the 21st of October to the 28th of Nov - we used 2814kWh, total of £136.
Does that sound normal or are we using a lot of gas?
Thanks.
Alexandra

It depends... how big's your house and how do you set your heating (times and temperature)? It's all relative to your property.
Looking at my weekly readings I've used 2141kwh for the same period. I live in a big 5 bed house (14 rads), heating on all day 6.30am-9pm set at 17c.0 -
Since 15 October and today, we've only used about 1430kWh of gas.
But then we only appear to use about half what Ofgem claims is the average annual consumption.
So on that basis, you probably are using about average. Not sure that really means much. Surely more important is to (a) be happy, (b) be confident of being able to afford what you are using and, as this is a moneysaving site (c) investigate if you can use less and not be put out too much.
Finally, however much gas you do use, be sure to pay the least possible price for it

Thanks for useful comments.
We live in a 3 bedroom house on 3 floors.
We have thermostat at 20 celsius degrees.
Heating on for one hour in the morning and 4 hours in the evening.
We also cook with gas.
It seems like something is wrong according to what you are saying.
I know that one of the people living here (we are four people, the sitting-room is used as a bedroom) puts his heating on in his room full blast and it feels like Thailand in his room...0 -
I've used 2900 kWh of gas in that time.
3 bed semi with 2 OAPs rattling about inside it.0
