I can't agree that seeing a GP for the sorts of things that whiz round schools in 5 seconds flat is sensible, especially if the purpose of the appointment is to protect parents from the schools.
That is not a good use of our limited health service. School statistics are not THAT important in the the tapestry of life.0 -

All Yr 9 parents were summoned to attend a meeting in the summer as the children were about to move into year 10 and really needed to work hard and get good grades. The Head gave a talk to the parents about the importance of attendance, punctuality etc. We the went off to meet the new form tutors.

In the end, no one can help if you are going to be very ill but I believe many kids are kept at home 'just in case they struggle during the day'. I take the opposite approach, expect my kids to go to school, and for the school to call me if indeed it is too much for them. I would say 7 times out of 10 when I wasn't sure how it would evolved, they have made it through the day.0

What puzzles me is why there are so many "bugs" going around now?? When I was in school, no one got these "bugs", and my kids never got them either. Are the kids or the parents "softer" these days? My kids used to complain, that I'd make them go to school unless they were almost unconscious, and even then it was touch and go!!0

Modern kids grow up in too-clean environments and their immune systems don't get a proper work-out in their early years.0 -
