Being pursued for unpaid gas bill

Options
My daughter rented a flat through a letting agency for about a year and a half. She tried to find out who the gas supplier was and run up Scottish Gas who said it wasnt them. The letting agency also tried to find out who the supplier was without success. Now, after moving out 2 years ago, she has received a solicitors letter (or at least it looks like a solicitors letter, it could be from a debt collecting agency, I havent seen it) saying Scottish Gas are pursuing her for a gas bill of over £400 and she had 7 days to respond before Court proceedings were started. She received the letter after the 7 days! Needless to say she doesn't have that kind of money. I told her to get in touch with the Citizens Advice Bureau to see what they can suggest.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Firstly she needs to contact them and check that they have billed her between the correct dates and get a copy of the bill sent out. Then set up a payment arrangement so she can pay over time.

The problem with flats, especially Scottish ones is with many of them there are so many different formats they can be known as you can't work out which one is which without a serial number and mpr. ie 0/2, 50 Any Street could also be known as variations such as gfr 50, 50b, garden flat 50, 50/2, etc.

Contact them by phone but follow it up in writing; and get them to reply in writing.

The important thing is to have some written 'ammunition' when/if it affects her credit rating.
