do all credit card companies offer the same limit?

Options
i'm loooking to apply for a 0% credit card, with a 2 - 2.5% fee on BT and was wondering if most card companies will offer roughly the same credit limit? A couple of cards appeal to me, Tesco bonus being one but for some reason I'm wondering if they'll offer a smaller credit limit than say, Egg or Morgan Stanley etc?
Any ideas?

Each company vaires in the credit limit they offer you.
Not to sure if Tesco would offer a smaller credit limit than Egg or Morgan Stanley though.

No it seems they have their own ideas! In my spate of getting new improved fit-for-purpose credit cards, I got approved for all :j except Egg  , and with credit limits ranging from £2000 to £4500. These included Sainsburys, Morgan Stanley, GE Money, MBNA charity (WWF).

Personally, I like Morgan Stanley. However don't forget, as Martin would say :money: don't spend on a BT card, just hide it in a drawer and make your payments!

    Hi,

I have not got a clue what I am doing with this forum so if I have got it all wrong I apologise.

I have just received my Buy and Fly Morgan Stanley card. I want to use this just to balance transfer 2900.00. I applied to transfer and they wont let me. They say I should spend over the next 6 months to acheive a higher credit limit. My credit limit is 1000.00 and they say that I can only transfer 150.00. I get the feeling that I am doing something wrong.

    Can anyone help please.

    Thanks

I can't see why they won't allow you to transfer the balance of upto £1000. However to do the £2900 is probably not going to be possible. They want history on the card before they can increase the credit limit hence why they are advising you to spend over the next 6 months. It means they can see what type of customer you are and if you are going to make payments on time etc.

All card companies will assess an applicants credit worthiness on their own criteria. It is easily possible to be given a £2K limit on one and a £10K limit on another.
There are certain cards/companies known for poor limits and certain ones known for higher. Reading the old messages within this forum will enlighten to as to which ones they are.

Well, I have an Egg Money card which originally had a credit limit of £1,200 :D I asked for it to be put abit higher, and it was by £500.00

I recently got the Asda card (for 2p off a litre of petrol at Asda) credit limit £5,000

No idea why the difference
  • I applied for 2 Cards at once,

RBS Gold and Alliance & Leicester (MBNA)

Both arrived but with very different limits

RBS- £650 (Useless as I spend about £600-£800 a month and always pay off the full balance)

    A&L- £3,500 (Perfect for me)

I also have a Lloyds TSB Card - Initial £5,000 limit (Although I do Bank with them and pay in between £1,600-£2,000 a month)

I recently applied for 2 cards, 1st capitialone platinum, they turned me down & offered me a classic with a limit of £400, which I really dont understand, seeing that I had a card with them over a yr ago with a limit of £5000. The only thing thats changed is that i earn £7000 more than I did then.

The 2nd card was MBNA & was accepted & was offered the amount I asked for of £6000.
