Ie 8

I am using IE8 but when I sign in to my sky email it says:

You are using a version of internet explorer which will soon be unsupported. Some features may not work correctly. Upgrade to a modern browser or dismiss.

When I click on upgrade it says I am using the most up to date for windows XP.

I also cannot view anything on facebook when I go in on IE but I can if I log in using Google Chrome(which I don't like using)

What can I do to correct this? I don't want to use Google Chrome.

If you want to still use ie8 (which is very faulty as is Chrome) but I don't know your os; if you're xp you have to delete sp3 which will roll ie back to 7, then reinstall.

But I would suggest using Firefox which is faster and better.
  • I dont like Firefox - I much prefer Chrome lol

Opera is worth trying though - thats not bad.

Ultimately, an XP oporating system is now getting old. It will only support IE up to 8, and web pages are constantly updated. You have got the the point where IE8 is becomming unuseable.

    So - your options:

    1. Update your OS to windows 7, and then update to a the latest version on IE.
    2. Use another browser that is supported and will run on XP.

Ultimately your going to ru ninto more and more problems, and eventually you will need to update your OS if you plan on using it withthe internet. My XP machine was relegated from net duties a while back. I still use it for most of my non internet use as XP is very stable and perfectly useable (so for my music, word processing, databases). I went to a Tablet for internet use.
  • I would just use Firefox or Chrome, they are much better browsers anyway!

when you have cleaned up your infections,

use something like thunderbird to download your emails instead of reading via a browser.

    IE8 is fine

uninstalling sp3 is not good advice.

It is if op wants to reinstall ie8 as it's the only way to do it and cure any related problems. I've done it many times when ie8 has played up (which it does a lot). It only takes a couple of hours to reinstall sp3 and updates.

Also CoolNovo is a good browser, sister of Chrome but more user friendly.

Their problems may be related to infections, settings or addons, uninstall sp3 and reinstalling IE is a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

....add to that reinstalling IE8 won't make one bit of difference to what the message is actually saying.

Some mail systems (gmail and others that use it, like Virgin Media) are now giving the warning that IE8 will not continue to be supported. Nothing to do with service packs or browser faults, it just isn't being supported.
    Use another browser. :)

  • What are these 'infections' everyone speaks of. The OP is seeing a message saying XP can only handle up to IE8, that is all ??
