can't remember if i sent an item

Bit embarrassing, and i doubt there's much anoyone can do, but I've been selling quite a lot of stuff on ebay recently, and got a message last night from a buyer saying that they hadn't recieved their item (worth around £80) which they paid for 2 weeks ago and which I had marked as dispatched.

I tend to keep all of my postage receipts from the post office.
I thought I had sent it using tracked delivery due to its high price.
I can't find that particular receipt anwhere amongst the 50 or so reciepts I can find, so I'm assuming that I didn't send it.

I've emailed the buyer and offered them a refund or another of the items which I still have.

It's just that I still have this nagging feeling that I did send it.
I kind of remember the address.

Is there anything I can do?
Is there a way to check with the royal mail?

thanks

Unfortunately I think you are stuck and may have to just refund or replace.

how would you begin tracking that info down, if you were RM?
  • If you did not send it then hopefully it will turn up sometime :-)
Can I suggest a spreadsheet so that you keep track of sales and a wonderful invention called a receipt spike!
  • It's a shame. I did something similar once: I always put my receipts in date order in a box I specifically use for ebay postage receipts. But on this occasion I had left a receipt for an INR in the zip compartment of my handbag and then changed to a new bag. Like you, I could vaguely remember the address. I found it after turning the house upside down. I suggest, sit down and have a good think, you may have that lightbulb moment and remember where you put it!
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

I had this once when I ran a paid-for fanzine as a teenager. I ended up convinced I hadn't sent one out (I had a lot of penpals who all paid for them and then there were little flyers people passed round a network of penpals of penpals and so you could advertise things for sale in that way) but I never got any complaints, so I must have sent it.

Unfortunately there will not be any way of tracing it. If you have a replacement send that ASAP and then scour the house from top to bottom. Your buyer may not want to wait until you have stumbled across it, particularly if it may be a Christmas gift.

  • Can you tell from your stock quantity?
  • Just an idea, try ringing/email the delivery office that the item would have been delivered from and just kinds saying lost paper work and was wondering if the postie that delivers there remembers delivering a special delivery to that address. You never know trust me being a postie myself i have had much the same sort of thing asked.
Also if you know post office it was posted from and day and rough time they should be able to track the number for you.

Do you still have the item? If not you sent it and looks like you did not keep the receipt and have no way of tracking or checking with the Royal Mail!

Not a chance. Too many reasons to go in to here, but without the receipt nobody will tell you anything.

It's not likely that the buyer is trying it on.
