Univeral Credit & Child Savings Accounts

True, however UC has not yet come in, and is being phased in over a period of time, it is not inconceivable that £20K of savings could be spent in that time, so if invested NOW, will probably not be counted. Right now what he does with his money is his business - according to the current rules. I'm not saying that it's right that someone has large amounts of savings and claims benefits, rather that right now it's not against the rules.Love many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.
“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.0 -
This government doesnt like savers.
No wonder this country is f up
They would rather me spend my £500 i would have saved a month on useless crap than save for my familys future.
So if that what they want then thats what I will do and make sure I am entitled to the maximum benefits I can claim. As me the wife have already paid into the system over soo many years.0 -

Some people are proud that they pay for their own children so the tax payer doesn't have to without trying to cheat a system.
As already said - why not pay a chunk off the mortgage which in the long run will be better for you.
If you can save £500 a month then all your post does is highliht what many of us have been saying which is that Tax Credits are a joke and pay way too much.
Not many people on none benefits can afford to save £500 a month.0 -

Total contradictions. You say you've "paid into the system over soo many years" yet you claim benefits. And you have children. If you actually believe you have paid in anywhere near the amount you have already had from the "pot" you are delusional. I have no kids, have worked full time since the day I left college and never claimed a penny in anything, yet I don't have the disposable income to save even £50 a month let alone £500. Why should I contribute to your top-up?! I sincerely hope the UC changes things.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244
