On nearby St. Catherine's Down is St. Catherine's Oratory, locally known as the "Pepperpot", a stone lighthouse built in the 1323 by Walter De Godeton. It is Britain's oldest medieval lighthouse.
A replacement lighthouse was begun in 1785. However it was never completed. Locally this half finished building is known as the "salt pot". from Wiki0 -
I think the view point mentioned in the comp text is:
This is easy to follow and the start can be found opposite a popular and signposted car park and viewpoint overlooking Blackgang Chine Adventure Park on the A3055.

I think its somewhere on the path nr Blackgang Rd as there is a car park there between the big car park of the Adventure Park & the path runs between there: http://www.gps-routes.co.uk/routes/home.nsf/RoutesLinksWalks/isle-of-wight-coast-path-walking-route#
Any IOW residents :-)0 -
Footpath is on top of Gore Cliff above St. Catherine's Point on the section between Niton and Blackgang, probably around SZ 498 759

(The car park is the one above Blackgang at SZ 490 767 )

Wow this is really hard one, I had to re-read the descriptions lot :undecided and think she mentioned two lighthouses (new and old) at the same, I move :search:toward to those lighthouses to West Cliff.
I just find nearly the same photos, I do not know if it is relevant or not?:undecided

Well done on finding the photo. It gives "photographer location SZ 498 759" which confirms what I posted in #5 above.0
