broken PSP from Argos

I bought a PSP from argos yesterday, took it home, removed the packaging, plugged it in to charge then turned it on. Only to find an absolutely massive crack in the screen.
So today I took it back to argos and was told that they need to get in touch with their warehouse team prior to any replacement being given or any money being returned. This I'm furious with, I forked out £150 for a broken PSP, just to be told I have to keep hold of it until they have proof as to if it was broken or not when they sent it out. IT WAS BROKEN, why the hell would I buy a PSP to break then take back. I saved for a while to get this and I feel like I'm about to be ripped off by them.

They are entitled to examine the goods to check out the fault.
Ultimately it's down to them to prove their case if they then try and claim that it's not faulty and they would have to convince a judge about this.
Hopefully it won't come to this and you'll get your refund or replacement without problems.0 -
I completely understand your frustration but you would perhaps be suprised at the number of returns where people claim that it was broken when they bought it and they have just dropped it themselves and broken it. With any technological (is that a word?) defects I have no doubt they would have exchanged it straight away but physical damage to items are always treated more cautiously. Hope you get the right outcome anyway!0

They exchanged an playstation immediately for me once. All that had happened was that the picture was a bit fuzzy on my telly. They swapped it immediately and when I got the second one the picture was the same! Needed a new telly!0

ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I've exchanged 3 different sets of portable DVD players (good name ones) at Argos due to fault without any huge issues.
I once had one of those portable video cameras that wasn't working properly but it was over 16 days. When I first took it back they gave me a very similar story i.e. will need to check out and get back to you etc. I phoned head office customer services (I think it was in Milton Keynes???) and explained that I could understand their reasoning, but that I'd bought the camera to go on holiday with, I was going in 2 days time and was really upset that I now wouldn't have it. (Was exceptionally polite throughout and this was true). Head Office said they would make an exception, phoned my local branch and authorised the exchange. Was very grateful.
I wonder if you phoned similarly explaining how you'd saved for quite a while and was now very disappointed. You could offer to leave your name / address etc. so that if they do find out it was your fault (not that I'm suggesting it was) they can contact you back.
I don't know if this will help, but I'm not sure what other option you have (I guess you could try a different Argos store to see if you get a more sympathetic customer service person).0 -
I've stopped buying stuff from Argos now due to poor quality of goods. For a while I would either open the item in the shop or just outside in the car park and go straight back in if it had a problem.
A colleague whose son worked at Argos for a while as a student said that they (warehouse staff) lob stuff across the room if they are under pressure to get things down to shop floor. She hasn't used them since.
HTH
PS There used to be a cool blog called ArgosEmployee. His head office put a stop to it! It was fun to read and didn't really sl@g Argos off. I don't like Argos now.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0
