I'm all for prevention being better than cure and the first two faults on that video could be solved during initial installation. An extended flue would bring it away from the wall, so less chance of snow building up on it.
A larger diameter condensate pipe, or even better routing it inside and plumbing into an existing waste pipe would prevent freezing.0
