Norwich Union Rapid Bonus Car Insurance - No Claims Transferability to New Policy

Right, here's the story...

My last two car insurance policies have been Norwich Union Rapid Bonus policies, 1 years no claims discount for each 9 month period.

My previous two policies were 12 month policies.

This combination entitles me to 4 years no claims bonus with NU.

The way it is phrased on my renewal is:

"42 months no claims (equivalent to 4 years)"

I want to transfer my insurance away from NU as it's getting too expensive and I want to know what No Claims I am entitled to from the new insurer.

Basically, the best price I'm finding for a major insurer is from More Than. When I've asked them if they accept the rapid bonus accrued no claims, they said I'd have to check with NU to see whether NU would verify the bonus as 3years or 4.

So I spoke to NU, who wouldn't confirm that, but advised me to speak to More Than. Round and round in circles...

Does anyone have any idea about this as it seems neither insurers seem to know.
