Wallpaper mismatch

We have been decorating our hall stairs and landing to get it nice for Christmas, we have to do it ourselves as not much money.
As we both work we have been doing it in the evenings and last night we went to B&Q to get 3 more rolls of paper to finish the job.
Obviously we made sure the batch numbers were correct etc but this morning its clear to see that the paper has a different finish on it and sticks out like a sore thumb!!
We can't afford to buy more, are B&Q responsible for either replacing or painting the paper we have put up??

Why did you not notice this before you put it up ? To me sticks out like a sore thumb would mean it was very noticeable.
Did you use the same adhesive to put these three rolls up.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -

No.
Doing it in the evening wasn't the best move you have ever made, if the finish is that different and it is now that important to you, then you should have done it in daylight.0 -
Take a photo and email it to B&Q explaining the issue.
A similar thing happened to my brother with some wallpaper he got from Next and then ended up refunding him £200.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
There is another number on the rolls as well as the batch number, are they also the same.
Are yu sure the new rolls have dried out sufficientlymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi yes as I say not the best idea doing it in the evening but have no other time to do it!
When I say sticks out like a sore thumb, I mean it does now its dry!
We are on a tight budget as I have been off sick with breast cancer for some time and have only recently gone back to work so just cannot afford to replace the wallpaper ourselves.
We checked all the numbers and they all matched!
My husband has requested that Harris and B&Q liase and come up with a solution, even if it means getting someone in to paint over it .
Thanks for taking the time to reply.0 -
If youve picked nice wallpaper, and presumably you picked it because that is what you wanted your room to look like, so if your complaint is
up held then I wouldnt accept someone coming and painting over it.
They should either find paper that matches or pay to have the room done as you wished it for from scratch. Keep the labels from both batches and mark them batch 1 and batch 2. for future reference.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Really? Presumably on a sunny day, in July, with an ambient temperature of exactly 21.6 degrees, an easterly wind of under 10 mph and visibility over 2 miles. Are there any other conditions you think they 'should have' followed?
You're just using hindsight to pretend you're giving advice. Had they said that the paper looks OK in daylight but different under artificial light, you'd have posted exactly the opposide of what you wrote.0 -
Obvious question - Does the paper come in 2 versions ? I've seen wallpaper sold with 2 finishes, one matt and one textured.0

I had a similar issue with B&Q Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen paper last year, when brushing it down, the background colour came off.
Rang the store, manager asked us to photograph it and bring in a sample, we did so and they refunded the entire purchase and have us £25 on a gift card.
They were very understanding and the manager said they do deal with such problems regularly0 -
No the paper does not say anything about a different finish on the label. We have sent samples of both papers and labels to the manufactures so we now have to wait for them to "analyse" it and get back to us.
we used the same paste etc.0
