Christmas present ideas for 80 year dad?

I am really stuck for something for my dad. He is quite a healthy 80 year old. He loved playing cricket in his younger days, loves bowls now, used to like walking but can't do hills so much now. I does like to be on the go and doesn't really like sitting around. He will not do computers but does have a kindle:)
I really would welcome some ideas and hopefully suggestions can help others like me:)

I know you said he doesn't 'do' computers but how about an iPad?

How about a hamper with his favourite treats? Nice tea/coffee, biscuits, jams/marmalades, cake etc and perhaps a scarf/gloves to keep him warm when he's out and about. Hope you find something suitable :)
  • Thanks for the suggestions and sorry it took so long to acknowledge- I hadn't got any email notifications.
He won't even look on amazon for book ideas- he just doesn't want to get into computers. I have to find books for him.
I would actually love to get him an ipad as I got the kindle and an ipod for him previously and he had no idea what to do with the ipod but loves it now. Perhaps an ipad would be one step too far.
Afternoon tea sounds lovely and I was already thinking along the lines of buying a few little things.
I've also thought( since posting here) of a National trust membership.

    Magazine subscription?

A cheque book of IOU favours, eg I'll clean the windows/do the shopping/weed the garden/do laundry or ironing etc.

Does he like the theatre? Maybe tickets to see something he would really enjoy.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
  • I'm going to do my Grandmother a personalised calendar using family photographs. They're easy to do on the internet, most of the photographic websites do them. They also do diaries and all sorts of other things.

With the iPad, there's a Kindle app for it. I have both and now use the iPad more than the Kindle as it's backlit, so I can read it in bed without a light on! And if he uses the Kindle app.... bit by bit he can move on to other stuff ;)
  • :)Some great suggestions- thanks everyone.
The one that I can't do is ironing and laundry- he absolutely loves doing these and often takes away another of his daughter's washing when she is out and he is babysitting:rotfl:He even irons towels and underwear! That would be on IOU idea for him to do for me
