Washing machine on blink

Options
Hi,
I put my washing machiene on for awash and went out for an hour I came back and the house was smelling of what I describe as burnt electrical smell if you know what I mean,I've out it back on for a spin and there's a clicking noise that wasn't there before coming from the motor as it spins
I've taken the motor off the back and taken the brushes out...they don't seem too bad I did change them about a year ago,I have included pics below and also of the motor where the brushes touch this is smooth but in one place it's a little rough could this be where the noise is coming from? It seems to click when I spin it by hand when the brushes go over this part.
Again pics below
Advice is appreciated
Thanks

    You need new brushes !

The slightly shorter brush is the one that has worn down too far hence why the commutator has got black and pitted, because the brush wont have been making contact properly it will have been arcing hence the burning electric smell.

So you need 2 new brushes - always replace both, and you need a commutator stick, these sticks clean and refinish the comm back to a nice clean and smooth finish. Simply place the stick onto the comm and turn the motor by hand, it might take several minutes to clean it up but it'll work....ive done 100's of them.

The clicking will most likely be from the commutator / brushes causing a flat spot on it.

Lucky it hasnt blown back to the card inside the washer, the arcing can often wreck a washers electronics.

Got new brushes fitted and although the noise isn't there as mich it still is,I'm guessing this is the brushes rubbing against the rough part of the motor shown above,do I need to sand this rough piece down to make it as smooth as the rest?

Yes, did you get a com stick ordered as well to get the commutator polished back, with it being pitted like that dont run it until you have polished the com back, it could still cause arcing and could blow back to the board until it has been done....I have seen it happen all to many times which is why we always polished the com as good as possible before replacing bushes.
