Damage to Interior Wall

Options
Hi,

don't know if someone can help just recently had new plastered / skimmed wall, painted and the door frame painted.

Workmen finished last week, now noticed that slight damage 4 dents and a squiggle has damaged the new paintwork and door frame looks like something has been dragged along it. I haven't moved anything into the new room and have steered clear of walking anywhere near the new paintwork.

No one mentioned to me the damage...just wondered if anyone else has had this? Or what I should do?

Many Thanks :)

  • have you got kids by any chance ?
  • No children, other than the workmen no one has been in the room.
  • could you point out the damage to the workmen? and ask them to make it good?

Nobody has any idea who actually did it. It might have been the workmen or it might have been a child are both conjecture. There is no proof. Now if you had spotted it as you were paying them or signing off the work as complete to your satisfaction then that might be a different matter.

There may be a high probability that the workmen did do it but accusation with the resultant confrontation and raised blood pressure is pointless. You have two choices:

    1. Carry out the remedial work yourself.
    2. Put your nicest pleading hat on and say to the workmen there has been some damage and I wonder if you would be kind enough to come and make it good. If they did do it and have a conscience they should recify it FOC. If they didn't do it or don't have a conscience you'll get a supplementary bill probably. You are totally reliant on goodwill I'm afraid.

    Cheers

No, but at 1 time last week there were 5 workmen in the room, finished late Friday I shut the door and went out, in broad daylight the following morning I could see it.

Just really annoying that no one had the decency to say to me sorry we've done this to your wall, I would have rather that than nothing said at all and its not as though I can now not see it.

Understand your frustration but you still have no proof. Its circumstantial so you are reliant on goodwill I'm afraid. Confrontation will only get them digging their heels in and denying it. Surprised you didn't inspect the work before they left TBH. Then there would have been no question.

The paintwork had been completed earlier in the week, the room was dark and I wasn't inspecting the wall, I was inspecting plumbing work being carried out.

I should have told them to come back am in the light.

In hindsight everything is a perfect picture...

Sadly that is the truth. But I can understand how the OP missed it, I suspect most of us do not inspect our house for damage after work is done.

Also I have 3 doors into this room and unless I was in the room and turned round to check I wouldn't have seen it, it was too dark plus I had my back to it speaking to the workman.

If I could kick myself I would.... I suppose its only a little thing but its principal...
