New Oven, Rangemaster?

Options
Hey guys,

Just wanting a little help, me n the missus have been having a look at the Rangemasters recently and really like the look of both the 90 wide kitchener and the Toledo in black. Both can be had at the moment for ~£900.

One problem I'm having is other than the glass lid on the Toledo and the wok burner on the kitchener I can't really see any differnece, but when I look online the difference is about £400!

Also for them being so expensive they seem to have a ridiculously short warranty (1yr).

Any help and input appreciated :)

Go to your local AGA shop and ask to see a Six-Four range cooker. It will change your perspective on what "expensive" is.

Also, we have a black range cooker but I would choose a lighter colour if I was buying again. Black shows every greasy fingerprint and speck of dust, particularly when the sun shines on it.
  • look at the actual spec sheets, that'll show the difference. Also the cheaper one could be on offer where the other isn't and also it can be just down to materials. I have the 90 Kitchener and think it great (Dual Fuel) As Gloomendoom says, go look in an AGA shop and then you'll look at the rangemanster in a completely different light!!
  • Any recommendations for buying a range cooker anyone?

We have the Rangemaster Classic 110 induction.

We didn't want windows because you then have to keep the oven spotless.

The induction hob is just a joy to live with quick to heat and easy to clean.

I wasn't happy with the build quality (ie feel) of most ranges but since OH and myself were both brought up with Agas that is probably not surprising.

No they don't, they've had a two year warranty for 7-8 years now.

And if you think the AGA 64 is expensive then go check out the La Cornue range (also owned by AGA/Rangemaster) it will change your perspective on what "expensive" is, the dearest one we have come across so far is £77k for a DOMESTIC household range cooker.

Going to add to this thread rather than start a new one...

Our 90cm dual-fuel Baumatic has had it, although it's only about 5 years old. So, new cooker time. It's not the best of times to be buying one but needs must, and as the Baumatic has proved, cheap & cheerful is a false economy in the long term; it's been mended 3 times & has now developed at least 4 separate problems - 2 hobs have stopped working, the wok burner's gone very lopsided despite umpteen thorough clean-outs, the back element on the main oven has just gone (again) and one of the other two has died & it took 8 hours to cook a roast today. Time to stop throwing good money after bad & buy new.

Thing is, we're hard on cookers; there are anywhere between 5-10 people in the house, I cook from scratch daily and we bake a fair bit too although I do try to combine sessions (i.e. fill the oven!) for maximum efficiency. So I'm looking for decent build quality & fuel efficiency as well as good cookability, but my maximum budget is going to be £1500. And it seems prices have gone up rather a lot since this thread was last added to.

I did enjoy the tall narrow oven on the Baumatic & used it a lot; it was very quick to heat & relatively cheap to run & I accumulated lots of appropriate casseroles, trays & dishes to fit it. And the big oven really was big. So I'm not wedded to the classic side-by-side layout, but wouldn't want just one huge oven again like the previous cooker; even I struggled to fill that one! I didn't like the Baumatic's in-oven grills though, which were either on or off - no variable control.

So - recommendations, please. Or warnings! I would like to get at least 10 years out of this one...
