Blackberry Playbook 7 tablet 64 GB

Looking to buy one for going on overseas holidays - been reading the threads on here - now I'm wondering will it be easy to connect up to free wifi in the hotel.

This may be a silly question to some but sometimes I get carried away, buy it then find I can't use it.

I'm buying it to surf the net and send emails while on holiday.

Thanks for your help.

What happens when there is no free WiFi? Do you have a plan B?

Connecting wifi should be easier for any tablet.
However, I am not recommend play book.

As easy as any other tablet. I'd rather have the Google/Asus Nexus 7 16GB though for £170 posted from the Google Play store. Much less storage than that Blackberry, but far higher resolution screen which will be better for surfing.

As long as you aren't wanting to have access to millions of apps then the 64GB Playbook is a perfectly good buy as a 7" media and internet tablet. It's build quality is much better than anything else you will get for the price.

I find it's ideal for holidays as you don't want something big and expensive to lug around (such as an IPad) and loads of places offer free wi-fi in tourist areas.

I wouldn't buy any item for travel that did not have to Internet via the mobile network. I most certainly would not depend on free WiFi.

I suppose it all depends on how vital the internet access is. In my book, it's useful to have but not something I'm prepared to pay international roaming 3G rates for. When I'm on holiday I don't need to be online 24/7 (in fact it's good to get away from it all) but it's nice to be able to check up on things when I can get free Wifi. In most places that just means popping into the nearest bar.

Who on earth suggested that?? A local SIM will do in most cases.
    Local bar? Be serious.
If it's raining and you need to send an email or to do a little research you then have to seek out a bar with free Internet. Internet banking over Free WiFi?
No way that I would spend £170 and be limited to running around looking for Free WiFi to get connected.
I always have an unlocked 3G modem to hand.

I suppose everyone is different but "seeking out a bar" is one of my favourite holiday activities so it's no problem for me.

I suspected that. :) But realistically, it is not always convenient. So, I'm never without mobile Internet access in one form or another.
  • Thanks for all your replies. Yesterday I went and brought one, I know it's very early days but I think I have made a wise choice especially at that price. (£129.00)

Looks like I'm on the same wavelenght as Doshwater. It will nice to have, if I can use it then fine if not no big deal after all I'm on holiday for me it's just something pick up and do to past the time should I get bored, I'm certainly not working my holiday plans around my tablet and wifi.
