I am sure that most people would want a friend like you Kevin, given how emotionally involved you have got in the remortgage...!

That said, we have heard one side of the story from someone not involved and you are asking if you think getting half the fee back is fair...?

For all we know the Solicitor is acting upon new information or information from the other side and the new form is necessary.

Get it completed and then you/her can follow the laid out complaints procedure...

Thanks for your snide comments Dave

I often wonder why I bother to post on this site these days tbh. I thought it was a site to help consumers but obviously you know better

Its a site to save money, not necessarily claim money from any angle possible.

I would like to think that people post to receive genuine help and information from informed people.

What did you expect, without the full picture that someone would come on and go yeah fleece the Solicitor for half the fee as that must be fair - fill your boots.

My remarks were made based upon a horrible claim culture that I keep seeing springing up and people wanting to have a claim up on multiple posts..

Tell the Solicitor they have been poor, let them explain and then take it from there.

No need to threaten Law Society and wanting half back so early, it came across as mercenary.

Apologies if this is not the case

Its not about a claim society. Its about paying people 595 for someone to do a job and their failure to do it properly causing someone unbelieveable amounts of stress by their failure to do it. It has nothing to do with you why I am emotionally involved so Im not going to explain it to you.

A mortgage that was due to complete on 2nd November is still not complete due entirely to the incompetence and failings of the solicitor. Explain to me what other recourse there is to that solicitor other than trying to get a refund?

Make a complaint and they will deal with it internally? Thats going to work in a company of one solicitor isn't it. The remortgage is for 232000 so the refund of a couple of hundred quid is f@ck all but its the principal of the fact that you are making a point that you shouldnt have to pay for shoddy service.

I do not think I once asked why you were emotionally involved, just commented that your hardly impartial and therefore there are 2 sides to every story.

A solicitor is professionally qualified and managed, it always amazes me that people are happy to pay non-qualified Estate Agents £2,500 +, but begrudge paying £595 to get the legal side professionally administered.

Only a solicitor can really judge whether there are failings on the part of yours (I mean her's) solicitor as you have a date and want to stick to it which could have exposed you to risk.

Listen, you may be absolutely right and the solicitor may be rubbish, but if you want me to agree that you are correct from a few posts and make you feel better about trying to claim back half the fee; then put simply I will not be.

    Good luck with the completion

Never asked you for anything Dave tbh, certainly didnt need the backing of some random to tell me whether she should or shouldnt claim. My question was, what other course of action is there. Anyway, hope posting !!!! on here fills your day, have a good one

Ok, thanks, would you think getting half back is realistic?

And the post above looks exactly like you are looking for backing from some random..

    FYI

Solicitor in question is on the phone now. Started the call 'hello darling' then when she tried to speak told her to sssshh cos he was speaking. Great firm, its not about the money, but a complaint needs to be made regardless as its not acceptable

I suspect that, unless there's been some major failing on the firm's part, compensation for poor service will be £50 and a bunch of flowers.

In any legal transaction involving several parties, sometimes things change during a process and information not previously required may become so, completely unexpectedly.

If the solicitor was also acting for the mortgage lender, part of the fee paid will be in respect of that work and that won't be taken into consideration in a complaint.
