Christmas Listings

I am looking for advice from veteran sellers about listing over the forthcoming holiday period.
I would imagine the week before Xmas will be very busy with more temporary staff, increased items lost and delays in delivery - all not good news for e-Bay sellers.
At the moment I am looking to have my last listing end on December 14th, and will start listing again just after Christmas. Will the fact I have nothing listed drop me down in the rankings for searches when I start again. At any given time, I normally have about 100 items listed..
Anyone got experience of e-Bay over the holiday period.

I list throughout Christmas but I just make sure I don't sell 'Christmas gifts'.
I've sold things on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and sent them out on the first day the post office reopens and I've not had a problem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. you're missing customers if you don't list! all that free time to view the internet and avoid yr family! as long as you cover yourself to mention delivery delays due to holidays etc to pre-warn idiot buyers then i'd go for it with a vengeance.0

Ah yes, one glorious Christmas a couple of years ago I managed to buy loads of stuff cheaply to resell in the New Year.
I never put my stuff on too cheaply over Christmas for that very reason!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I list over xmas too but i list any auctions on 10 day ect as it nears xmas, you don't need someone daftly buying something after the last posting date and moaning they wanted it for xmas. I will make sure nothing ends the week before xmas. BIN's will more than likely be taken down on the last posting date and put back up xmas eve. Although i may risk leaving them running with a huge 'this will not get to you in time for xmas' in the listing.
I think i took a proper holiday year before last and ended everything a week before and started again after xmas so haven't decided yet.0 -
I'm going to make sure all my listings end on the 14th, so that gives me time to post everything out and open and close any NPB cases before Xmas Eve.
Then I'll put 10 day listings up from the 17th, so that I have stuff ending all over the school/holiday period.0 -
I've promised myself a weekend off near the beginning of February, by then Christmas will be over, the January sales will be gone and everyone will be too skint to buy anything else. Well that's my plan anyway :-)
As for posting stuff, well last year I sold my last Xmas CD on the 22nd, posted it on the 23rd and it arrived on the 24th! but I'm not going to try repeating the feat. I've nearly sold out of my 'gift' items already so will just relist the every day items.0 -
I've started adding a list of Royal Mail's recommended last posting dates for Christmas to BIN listings and telling customers that only purchases completed before these dates are likely to arrive by Xmas, but no doubt I'll have delayed mail and panicking buyers again. If you have active BIN listings but don't want to sell over the Christmas period, one trick I've seen sellers use to avoid the expense of relisting is to edit the prices to something absurdly high then put them back to normal when they're ready to sell again.lindseykim13 wrote: »BIN's will more than likely be taken down on the last posting date and put back up xmas eve. As I'm currently a private seller, I've already stopped listing - my last pre Christmas auctions finished last weekend.
I find that the Post Office is so busy in December, the queues are really bad. Plus, the possibility of postal delays is a concern.
I think post problems are already starting here as this morning I got next doors post through my door.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Wow, I'm hoping to keep selling up until about 10 days before Christmas. I will make sure I have auctions running all over Christmas as I too have sold items on Christmas Day in the past. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever
