They are special holders that only take low energy bulbs.
I can't post links, but if you go to the light bulb section on the screwfix website, you'll find 2/4 pin bulbs. It looks like you need a 4 pin (G24Q) bulb.0 -

Personally I'd take the stupid fitting off and put a normal one on! Not only is it restricting what you can put in it (you can put a CFL in a normal fitting if you choose but also a halogen or LED if you prefer the light from those), but its huge and ugly!Adventure before Dementia!0

I agree. Mind you it's relatively easy to pick up most bulbs from B&Q etc these days.0 -
I agree, but i wouldnt know where to start with replacing it with a normal one tbh.0

Normal lightbulb holders cost about £1, usually less.
Turn off electric, unscrew plastic bits from existing lightbulb holder, then disconnect the three wires (blue, brown and yellow/green striped). Connect wires to new lightbulb holder, screw together, turn electric back on and enjoy!0 -
Thanks poppellerant, i might actually give that a go!0

The darkness. The low electricity costs.
You forgot to say to put a suitable bulb in.0
